The glorious olive tree in our curiously tropical courtyard has, for over 20 years, offered the shade of its branches in many a peace offering, over a long black or glass of rosé. Today Olive offers breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as everything in between.
Proprietors, Head chef Jamie Morgan and brothers Ferdi and Carlo Petagna, first came into contact in 2008 at Fratelli on Blair Street, which the brothers had just opened. A few years later the boys reunited to try their hand at something a bit different, which they found in Olive. With prominent careers in the Wellington and Australian hospitality industries their combined experience and friendship is reflected in the unique and friendly atmosphere at Olive.

Local musicians present their music in the courtyard while you eat and drink, from 6.30
Wander in of a morning for a coffee and a cheese and chilli scone or a Bloody Mary and Olive’s big breakfast. Lounge in our courtyard with a cocktail in the afternoon sun, or step in for a slightly more formal affair and dine on Jamie’s creations for dinner.
Jamie’s commitment to food is about creating balanced dishes that everybody can enjoy. He works with seasonal produce in creative ways, using a combination of traditional and progressive techniques. He draws on the knowledge and skills he has obtained throughout his career (his first mentor being Rex Morgan). As well as a constant hankering to know what is new in the world of food, to bring innovation to his dishes.
We serve food and beverages throughout the day from 8am until late, Tuesday to Saturday, and from 8am until 3pm Sunday and Monday.
Olive offers a unique space and inviting dining experience for large groups. Whether your function requires early evening canapé and drinks or a formal three-course meal we have the experience and professionalism to cater for your event.
We offer 2 course dinner menus from $50 and three course dinner menus from $65. Olive offers a private dining room for up to 8 guests and has a variety of group tables in the main dining area and in the Garden.
For larger groups over 20 we offer a unique garden dining experience in our beautiful garden oasis with a special shared dining menu starting from $50 per person, prepared and cooked for you by your own personal chef in our outdoor kitchen.
